Football has this rare ability to bring together people, stories, and very different generations around the same field. As the 2026 World Cup approaches, we wanted, through this new edition of Echoing Stories, to look at what football represents beyond stadiums and professional sport.
The photographers presented here document places and communities they know intimately. Their images speak as much about transmission, belonging, and everyday life as they do about sport. Between France and the United States, football appears as a shared language, a space for connection, and sometimes also a dream of success.
In both France and the United States, football is often played in the gaps of the city — on improvised pitches, between housing blocks, or by transforming public spaces. Deeply rooted in popular culture in France, the sport also developed in the United States within immigrant communities, carrying stories of movement, diaspora, and integration.
The same gesture, different uses, but a practice that moves, gathers, and connects.

Echoing Stories is a curatorial project initiated by Elsa Seignol and Marvin Bonheur, organizing exhibitions, publications, and public programs between France and the United States. Conceived as a space for exchange and circulation, the project brings together local stories, urban experiences, and communities often documented from within by the artists themselves. Each edition gathers photographers whose work explores questions of memory, belonging, and transmission through different social and cultural realities.
